🌿 Tehran Birds Garden: A Sanctuary of Nature and Avian Wonder

If you're in Tehran—or planning a visit—the Tehran Birds Garden is a must-see attraction that offers a peaceful escape from the city's bustle. Nestled in the Lavizan Forest, in the northeast of Tehran, this sprawling sanctuary covers over 6 hectares and showcases the fascinating world of birds in a vibrant, natural setting.

🦜 An Immersive Two-Phase Experience

Tehran Birds Garden is divided into two main phases, each offering a distinct experience:

  • Phase 1 features birds housed in enclosures—many of which are either non-flying or require special care. Here, you’ll find exotic parrots, roosters, pigeons, tropical species, and even predatory birds that cannot be released into open flight zones.

  • Phase 2, located in the northern part of the garden, is a vast net-covered environment designed to simulate the birds' natural habitat. This unique design allows birds to fly freely within a protected area, providing an up-close look at majestic species like peacocks, grey pelicans, flamingos, black-necked swans, egrets, and mandarin ducks.

🏛️ Architecture That Inspires

The garden’s architecture blends Iranian tradition with modern engineering. Wooden gazebos, nomadic-style tents, and pavilions reflect traditional design, while the centerpiece of the garden is a record-breaking cable roof structure:

  • Weighs 2,500 tons

  • Supported by 12 main and 68 peripheral columns

  • Constructed using 70 km of cables and netting imported from Italy

  • Designed to harmonize innovation with nature

The beautifully paved pathways, surrounded by lush greenery and colorful blossoms, make every stroll a serene journey.

🐦 A Living Encyclopedia of Birds

The garden is home to over 3,000 birds from 200 species, both local and exotic. Whether you're fascinated by tropical birds or rare Iranian species, the garden offers a living encyclopedia for bird enthusiasts and families alike. Informational plaques and the official website provide details on species names, habitats, and behaviors, making the visit educational and engaging.

🗣️ Highlights & Attractions

  • A charming welcome by talking parrots at the entrance

  • Panoramic views of the garden from the hilltop entry point

  • The massive eagle enclosure, visible from the entrance

  • Waterfalls, stone bridges, and large ponds enrich the experience

  • Shaded benches and wooden gazebos for rest and reflection
